Meet my old friend, Squeaker! "Squeak" is a 2-1/2" long classic rubber duck who has lived on my bathroom window sill since 1991. Squeak has many imaginary friends who come in different sizes and colors. Sometimes Squeak squeaks like a male ducky...sometimes like a female ducky! Squeak likes to bask in the sun most of the day and enjoys a hot shower or a dip in a warm bubble bath to relax before bedtime. Squeak is a real party animal who enjoys celebrating every day like a holiday. Squeak is a big flirt and loves to ogle the imaginary rubber duckies! Squeak often plays dress-up and has a whole lot of fun looking at the quacky pictures I make. Squeak suggests that you get those party invitations sent, select your favorite design theme, and create a personalized gift basket filled with unique items for your next big bash! My long-term goal is to create 101 photo images using Squeak and offer them for sale on a large assortment of products at CafePress.com. You can now tweet with Squeak on Twitter. Thanks for visiting and have a ducky day! |

Clean Technica Greenhouse Gas-Sucking Rubber Ducks Could be In the Future |
|
Myriant Technologies LLC has just won U.S. Department of Energy funding of up to $50 million to construct a new plant that will produce Succinic Acid from sorghum, using a biobased process that is more energy efficient than conventional methods, and also absorbs more carbon dioxide than it produces. Rubber duckies may contribute to the elimination of global warming! |

Today NASA Uses 90 Rubber Ducks to Study Global Warming |
|
"NASA scientists have dropped 90 yellow rubber ducks into holes in Greenland's Jakobshavn glacier in an attempt to understand why glaciers speed up during summer months as they slip into the sea. The ducks, attached to a football-sized probe, have an email address and message prompting anyone who discovers the ducks to contact NASA to reveal where and when the duck was found. There is an undisclosed award for anyone who finds one of these rubber global warming crusaders. The NASA scientists, based at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California, hope this campaign will shed new light on the melting mechanisms behind Greenland's fastest moving glacier." Will rubber ducks soon be launched into space? |

| "STOCKHOLM - A rubber duck sat in a dog's stomach for five years before being removed by Swedish vets last week, a local newspaper reported on Tuesday. The owner of "Apollo," a boxer dog, assumed the toy had dissolved in his stomach over the years as it had not come out any other way." This pooch obviously doesn't know a squeak toy from the real thing! |

A circus owner walked into a cheap restaurant to see everyone crowded about a table watching a little show. On the table was an upside down pot and a rubber duck with shoes tap-dancing on it. The circus owner was so impressed that he offered to buy the bird from its owner. After some wheeling and dealing, they settled for $10,000 for the ducky and the pot. Three days later the circus owner runs back to the restaurant in anger, "Your expensive ducky is a ripoff! I put him on the pot before a whole audience, and he didn't dance a single step!" "So?" asked the bird's former owner. "Did you remember to light the candle under the pot?" |

| A rubber duck is a toy, shaped like a duckling, that is
made of plastic, rubber or rubber-like material. Its most popular form is
the bath toy which is designed to float and to be played with in
a bathtub. Ernie, a popular Muppet from Sesame Street, has helped to
popularize the floating bath toy with his song "Rubber
Duckie", though these toys existed long before the advent of this
television show.
The history of the first rubber duck is not known but is related to the history of rubber manufacturing, early rubber (and later synthetic rubber) toys including cars and dolls, and also the history of squeak toys. Many of the earliest rubber ducks were not bath toys at all. Some may be equipped with a squeaker that makes noise when the toy is squeezed, resembling the quack of a real animal. Today, most of these toys are made of vinyl plastic. These toys have achieved status as a popular icon and, while still primarily considered a children's toy, are used and loved by people of all ages. With their popularity has come the ability to parody the standard yellow ruber duck. Buyers can find them in various colors, sizes, and molded-on outfits to suit any occasion. This toy is an icon in at least American culture; it appears frequently in pop art culture. Some charities have run a race in which hundreds or thousands of these toys are dumped into a stream or river and the first one to float past the finish line is a winner. The regatta is also a popular event for fundraising. In recent years, this practice has lessened as ecologists have frowned upon what amounts to a tremendous amount of trash released into freshwater systems.
